NMLS (Nationwide Multistate Licensing System & Registry)

The NMLS is an online portal operated under the auspices of the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS) through which mortgage businesses submit filings to state regulators including the Arizona Department of Financial Institutions.  These filings include mortgage business licensing applications, residential loan originator applications, license renewal applications, financial statements, changes in address, ownership and control, renewal applications and Mortgage Call Reports.

The online form used to submit information at the business or “company level” is the MU1, the online form used to submit information for individuals such as owners, officers and directors and “Qualifying Individuals” such as the Arizona Responsible Individual is the MU2, the online form used to submit information for branch office licenses is the MU3 and the online form used to submit information for loan originators is the MU4.

The NMLS communicates with mortgage licensees on behalf of state regulators via email and the “Tasks” bar on the MU1 which is viewable on the NMLS online portal.

The NMLS is in the process of revising its operating system.  The new system will be called “NMLS 2.0.”
